About Dr. Barr
Dr. Barr is the Associate Professor of Neurology and Psychiatry at the NYU School of Medicine and Chief of Neuropsychology at the NYU Comprehensive Epilepsy Center. He researches sports concussion and serves as the neuropsychological consultant to various sports teams around the New York region. His clinical duties include neuro-psychological assessments, Wada tests, and brain mapping procedures on patients undergoing surgical treatment for epilepsy. He also specializes in neuropsychological assessment of patients with memory disorders resulting from brain injury, dementia, psychiatric disorders, and medical illness. His primary research interests include memory and other aspects of cognitive and behavioral functioning in epilepsy.
Poster Competition
The Jeffrey B. Lindeman Memorial Research Award is a poster competition open to graduate students, trainees, interns, and post-doctoral fellows. A cash prize of $300 will be awarded, and entrants are also eligible for reduced cost for the symposium ($25.00). OBJECTIVES
THREE LEARNING OBJECTIVES TO MEET THE EDUCATIONAL NEEDS OF THE AUDIENCE:
1. To critically discuss the methodology used to estimate the prevalence of sports concussion and the instruments used to assess its symptoms.
2. To understand the factors influencing the course of recovery from sports concussion and the intervention strategies used to promote return to play and prevention of post-concussion syndrome.
3. To summarize the risk factors associated with multiple concussions and to critically evaluate results from studies on retired athletes.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Neuropsychologists, Psychologists, School Psychologists, Educational Diagnosticians, Psychiatrists, Neurologists, and other Physicians.
In Memoriam
HNS lost a good friend and vital contributor to our organization December 17, 2009 with the passing of Jeff Lindeman, PsyD. Jeff was our perennial Symposium Director dating back to 1997, and past president of HNS (1996). We have renamed our symposium and other activities in his honor.

DeBakey VA Medical Center is located at 2002 Holcombe Blvd., between Old Spanish Trail (OST), Almeda Rd, and Cambridge Rd, a few blocks east of the Texas Medical Center. Please use the OST entrance, and park in the main parking areas (F, G, H, I, J & K). Upon entering the VA Medical Center through the main entrance, there will be signage posted to the 4th floor main auditorium.
